The highlight race this coming weekend is the A1A Marathon down in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. A flat and fast course, combined with Florida temperatures in February and some fantastic support all along the course usually results in a wonderful race...and 2017 should be no different!
Last weekend (February 12th), the highlight race here in the U.S. was the annual 26.2 With Donna, held in Jacksonville Florida. It's known as the national marathon to finish breast cancer, and the support at this race is absolutely awesome. We had one board member run this race in 2012, and the marathon was chock full of courageous stories from cancer survivors and countless runners competing in memory of loved ones.
This is a race that means a lot to the community, and it shows. If you are looking for a winter marathon that will provide support and motivation to succeed, this is a golden opportunity. The weather can be cold some years and warm some others, so pack for anything!
There were no real triathlon races last weekend to discuss - but this coming week in Victoria, Australia is the Ironman 70.3 race (on February 19th). A 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and then a half marathon, in the warm Aussie sun. This one is on my radar for a "vacation" in the coming years......
